Sorry about the brevity of this post. I didnt want to exceed the max path.
When a file path exceeds 256 characters in SharePoint, things start to breakdown, avoid using special characters. and you’ll avoid recieving http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894630/en-us?p=1 “The specified file or folder name is too long”

You can also avoid, the ole “red badge of courage” in powershell by keeping those names short on your files and folders, all while avoiding the use of special characters. . . . http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa365247(VS.85).aspx
